About Me

Welcome to Morino Studios! I’m Yu, the pottery maker here. I’m drawn to functional potter pieces like plates, bowls and cups that bring beauty and comfort to everyday life, so that’s where my focus is.

My work is shaped by a multitude of things: my Japanese upbringing and aesthetics; my love of all things nature and hiking; fascination with the physical materials in front of me; love of good food and drinks (which are elevated by thoughtful choice of vessels); and slowly, my deep appreciation of the diversity and energy of my adopted home of Queens, NY.

When the world feels so fragile and human connection fleeting, making pottery feels trivial, but I find meaning in bringing joy and sense of comfort to another human’s life through this work, in small ways.
